Dolley Madison Preschool

Dolley Madison Preschool offers early childhood education and enrichment programs for children ages two to six. Our structured, play-based program nurtures social-emotional development, communication skills, and academic readiness in a warm, welcoming environment.

Our preschool day is shorter by design, making the most of children’s natural curiosity and energy in the morning and early afternoon. Our thoughtfully planned schedule balances guided activities with purposeful play, giving children opportunities to build friendships, explore early literacy, practice problem-solving, and develop confidence and independence—all in a nurturing, joyful environment.

What makes our preschool unique is our commitment to nurturing the whole child, combining a traditional preschool experience with access to specialized support. We understand how important these early years are for learning to communicate, connecting with others, and developing a sense of belonging. We take time to know each child’s strengths and needs, creating an environment where every child feels valued and encouraged to grow.

Our inclusive classrooms bring together typically developing children and a small number of children in each class who benefit from additional support in speech and language or occupational therapy. Learning and playing alongside one another helps children develop friendships, kindness, and an appreciation for each other’s unique abilities.

Our teachers, assistants, speech-language pathologists, and occupational therapist work collaboratively to support children’s social, emotional, physical, and learning needs. Having these resources within our preschool community allows us to help children build self-esteem and develop a strong foundation for kindergarten and the years ahead.

The Speech and Language Center of Northern Virginia, our parent organization, helps children build the communication skills they need to connect, learn, and express themselves with confidence. In addition to supporting children at Dolley Madison Preschool, we offer outpatient speech-language services for children in the community, from 18 months through their teen years. Our caring speech-language pathologist works closely with families to support each child’s unique needs, celebrate progress, and help growing voices be heard.
